Each year Tibet House US hosts a benefit auction at Christies to support the Tibet House US and The Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey. The auction, this year to be held Monday December 16 at Christie’s New York, always attracts a lot of hight profile donations.
Uma Thurman and her Buddhist scholar father Robert Thurman are available for a lunch date at The Four Seasons if you’ve got the money. Or how about having Hugh Jackman read your voicemail message? There are a variety of event opportunities including the chance to schedule your own in-home performance from Phillip Glass with hors d’oeuvres by chef Eric Ripert or have a walk-on role in the latest David O’ Russell film.
The auction also features exotic trips everywhere from India to Bhutan to Bali. If you prefer something more tangible, there are a variety of artworks up for sale including a painting of the Dalai Lama by Shepard Fairey. The auction also celebrates Tibet, auctioning off antiques and ceremonial objects, Tibetan rugs, sculptures, and other global finds. You can bid ahead of the event through CharityBuzz.com.
Tibet House US serves two purposes: serving as cultural center in New York City and an online global resource for those interested in Tibetan civilization. It helps present Tibet’s traditions to the West through exhibitions, print publications, and media productions. Tibet House is creating a Repatriation Collection for future repatriation of outstanding examples of Tibetan art, creating an archive of rare photographs, opening a research library, creating a website for the wide distribution of information, and providing support to conservation activities both inside and outside of Tibet. The New York center has gallery space, a shrine, lending library and more.
