A Different View Of Time: QLOCKTWO Classic

Featuring a quadratic matrix of letters, QLOCKTWO Classic is the coolest clock we’ve seen lately.  Biegert & Funk creates timeless design and challenges you to look at the time in a different way. The concept behind it is simple: in order to make a different product, you have to change everything about it: from process to perception. The clock has no digits – only words. It’s made of wood with multiple coats of paint and it can be used as a wall clock or as a free-standing object. The time is automatically adjusted through radio signals and it changes every five minutes. For an additional sense of precision, the clock can also display the seconds on its front matrix. All you have to do is to activate “the seconds mode”. The best thing about it?! It’s easy to read and …well, it’s different!
“ The front panel of the QLOCKTWO is fixed by magnets. In this way it can be changed without visible means of attachment. Brushed stainless steel or polished synthetic glass in seven colours are available.” You can choose from: Black Ice Tea (black), Vanilla Sugar (white), Cherry Cake (red), Frozen Blackberry (violet), Lime Juice (green), Blue Candy (blue) and Dark Chocolate (brown). The words are not only displayed in English, but in eleven other languages, depending on your preferences. You can check the entire list of the available languages here. Starting price: $1,100.

Elegant Air-Filled Sofa Collection Glowing In The Dark by Mario Bellini

Made of recycled material, the Via Lattea collection includes a series of sofas and simple seats (like cushions) filled with transparent bubbles of pure air and ”sidereal light”. The outdoor furniture that glows in the dark, designed by Mario Bellini is definitely going to produce a “wow” effect among those who are fond of avant-garde furnishings. ”This is a project based on the pursuit of lightness and simplicity applied to the elastic balance between internal pressure and the dynamic loads of the body mediated by the form of the coverings. It is a project that goes against the general trend and is in constant evolution, based on the use of substances and materials that are alien to the traditional world of padded furniture.”
Everything about this collection is simple: from the materials used (recycled steel mesh and fibres from the packaging used to transport ingredients such as sugar or grain) to the design line. The cool glowing effect is the result of the coloured LED lights placed inside. With this collection the designer aims to break rules and transcend traditions. In case you want to bring an additional source of light inside your house, any piece of this collection could be one of the many possible solutions. When it comes to prices, well, Via Lattea doesn’t come cheap: a three-piece sofa, for instance, will cost you $7,800.

Daniel Strom’s Memento Mori, Carpe Noctem Watch

Halloween may have come and gone but skulls and other dark symbols aren’t always contained to a season. In his latest design Memento Mori, Carpe Noctem, watchmaker Daniel Strom plays with the classic idea of a skull as a reminder to seize the moment because life is short. This newest addition to Strom’s Agonium collection replaces the ivory of bone with vivid red.
The richly ornamented watch is detailed with skulls and blood red accents. The red dial was created through the ancestral Japanese lacquering technique of Urushi. The intense vermilion hue is achieved by cinnabar pigments. The red of the dial is echoed by the rubies encrusted in the eyes of the skulls on the crown and lugs, as well as the overstitching on the bright red strap. For a full three weeks, the master lacquer artist applies around twenty successive ultra-fine layers to form a result that is both artistic and sturdy. The watch movement is a mechanical self-winding, ETA Calibre 2824. The case is black rhodium-coated solid 925 silver with a stainless steel inner case. The watch sells for over $15,000.

Entertaining With Style: Refined Rockstar Whiskey Bar from Buster + Punch

The Rockstar Whiskey Bar lives up to its name through  its eye-catching design, elegance and finishes. Buster + Punch created the luxurious whiskey and cocktail bar from in two wooden versions: American Black Walnut and Blackened Ash. Hand-made to conjure the inspiring elegance of carefully finished details, the Rockstar Whiskey Bar also comes in customized sizes so it fits in perfectly in your chosen interior. Its name derives from the attention given to a rockstar because he/she “steals the show” and this is the exact feeling given by the refined wooden bar.
Attention to details shaped the final result of this sophisticated furniture piece: “Our stunning whisky or cocktail bar is hand made in the UK from either solid American Black Walnut or Blackened Ash. The quilted back panel comes in sumptuous Grey Berry silk or rockstar Black Leather. To the side sits a knurled brass light fitting with a snake’s heat cage for protection. The bar is opened from the top with two doors on brass butler hinges. The bar is then finished with custom brass buttons and our signature knurled brass furniture handles.”

Blossoming Desk Celebrating The Transition From Winter to Spring

Portugal-based design studio UNDA celebrate  fascinating mythology by creating the Lotus Desk. Trying to express the transition from winter into spring, when everything is revived and enters a new life cycle, the design focuses on details and a smooth, elegant cream-like color or its dark counterpart to shine.
This transition from cold to warm is described by the two oposing ends – one displaying an ice-like geometry, while the other blossoms into fine details: “From new life to death, from purity to passion, Lotus have had many meanings in myths and legends. Swelling from tender bud to full bloom, flowers are associated with youth, beauty, pleasure and the season of Spring: the season of growth and transition. This Desk intends to capture exactly that: the transition from the hard and cold Winter to the blooming and joyful Spring which we love so much.”
