Apple’s New Headquarters – Concepts

Here’s a look at Apple’s proposed new headquarters in Cupertino, CA. The city released more detailed plans about the project on the city’s website — and shared the concept renderings of Steve Jobs’ iSpaceship aka “Apple Campus 2.” More details here.
Set in rolling fields, this shimmering spaceship promises to follow Apple’s values of ‘innovation, ease of use and beauty.’ With an estimated cost of $5 billion, here’s designs for the gleaming silver doughnut of the new Apple headquarters by Norman Foster.
“We have a shot,” proclaimed Steve Jobs, in front of the Cupertino planning committee, in what would turn out to be his last public appearance, “at building the best office building in the world. I really do think that architecture students will come here to see it.”
“The building is pushing the boundaries of technology in almost every aspect,” says senior Foster architect Stefan Behling. “The glazing is a completely new system that’s never been done before,” he says, referring to the 12m-high concave sheets of glass for the main facade being manufactured in Germany, the biggest of their kind ever made. “Everything is handcrafted for this project.”
“You see the energy and the love and the attention to detail that we’ve put into this,” said Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer at an unveiling of the top secret spaceship plans. “We have treated this project just as we would any Apple product. And this will be a place for the most creative and collaborative teams in the industry to innovate for decades to come.”

Daily Dream Home: Ber House

It might look like a “a sequence of randomly placed steel bars creating an irregular patterned façade”, but this amazing home showcases a myriad of details that construct a fascinating interior and exterior design while being functional and comfortable. Located in Carlsworld, Midrand, South Africa, the Ber House is the result of a collaboration between Nico van der Meulen and M Square Lifestyle Design.
Photographed by Victoria Pilcher, Barend Roberts and David Ross for a complete tour, the residential wonder spreads over 720 square meters on a 2127 square meter site. Inspired by the estate rules forbidding the use of burglar bars, architect Werner van der Meulen of Nico van der Meulen imagined a house of cantilevered boxes empty of function and enclosed by black steel bars.

Centered around the living room, pool and covered patio areas, the rectangular floor plan displays an open and welcoming design. Crossing the concrete podium elevated above the Koy pond and entering the double-height hall exposes guests to a fascinating experience. Upon entering the house, the dining room lays at the right, while the floating staircase leading up to the bedrooms is to the left. With the entire Northern façade designed as a sequence of glass sliding and frameless folding doors, the interiors were flooded by natural light. Enjoy the details – I’m pretty sure everyone can find at least one thing they just love about this dream home.
