A Different View Of Time: QLOCKTWO Classic
Featuring a quadratic matrix of letters, QLOCKTWO Classic is the coolest clock we’ve seen lately. Biegert & Funk creates timeless design and challenges you to look at the time in a different way. The concept behind it is simple: in order to make a different product, you have to change everything about it: from process to perception. The clock has no digits – only words. It’s made of wood with multiple coats of paint and it can be used as a wall clock or as a free-standing object. The time is automatically adjusted through radio signals and it changes every five minutes. For an additional sense of precision, the clock can also display the seconds on its front matrix. All you have to do is to activate “the seconds mode”. The best thing about it?! It’s easy to read and …well, it’s different!
“ The front panel of the QLOCKTWO is fixed by magnets. In this way it can be changed without visible means of attachment. Brushed stainless steel or polished synthetic glass in seven colours are available.” You can choose from: Black Ice Tea (black), Vanilla Sugar (white), Cherry Cake (red), Frozen Blackberry (violet), Lime Juice (green), Blue Candy (blue) and Dark Chocolate (brown). The words are not only displayed in English, but in eleven other languages, depending on your preferences. You can check the entire list of the available languages here. Starting price: $1,100.
Daniel Strom’s Memento Mori, Carpe Noctem Watch
Halloween may have come and gone but skulls and other dark symbols aren’t always contained to a season. In his latest design Memento Mori, Carpe Noctem, watchmaker Daniel Strom plays with the classic idea of a skull as a reminder to seize the moment because life is short. This newest addition to Strom’s Agonium collection replaces the ivory of bone with vivid red.
The richly ornamented watch is detailed with skulls and blood red accents. The red dial was created through the ancestral Japanese lacquering technique of Urushi. The intense vermilion hue is achieved by cinnabar pigments. The red of the dial is echoed by the rubies encrusted in the eyes of the skulls on the crown and lugs, as well as the overstitching on the bright red strap. For a full three weeks, the master lacquer artist applies around twenty successive ultra-fine layers to form a result that is both artistic and sturdy. The watch movement is a mechanical self-winding, ETA Calibre 2824. The case is black rhodium-coated solid 925 silver with a stainless steel inner case. The watch sells for over $15,000.
Chanel’s New J12 Moonphase Watch
A decade after the launch of the original J12, Chanel’s iconic ceramic watch, the French luxury brand is introducing a new version, inspired by the night sky.
Chanel’s watchmakers have added another technical complication to the J12, adding a small dial indicating the current phase of the moon: new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter.
This is not a unique feature in the world of watchmaking. However, while most watches that show the moon’s phases do so through an aperture in the dial, the J12 Moonphase presents the image of the moon on an aventurine disc in midnight blue, evoking the night sky.
In addition, the watch features all of the other features one would expect from a luxury timepiece, including a Swiss-made mechanical self-winding movement and a date indicator.
Refined style
The new timepiece is available in a number of versions. Fans of Chanel will be able to choose between white and black for the ceramic version, available with or without the diamond bezel.
Chanel is also producing a more exclusive version of the watch in 18-carat white gold and titanium ceramic, inlaid with 554 or 696 baguette diamonds (limited editions of 12 and 5, respectively).
The ceramic version of the J12 Moonphase is available without diamonds for €6,900 (around $9,300) or with the diamond bezel at €18,000 (around $24,300).
Louis Vuitton for Only Watch 2013
Participating for the fourth time, Louis Vuitton has produced a superb piece unique for the upcoming Only Watch charity auction. As in prior years, Louis Vuitton’s piece for Only Watch 2013 is extra special because it was designed in collaboration with young Paul Pettavino.
Paul has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and it is research towards a cure for this disease which proceeds of the event go to support. Paul’s father LUC is president of the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophies and a figurehead in the Only Watch event.
This year, Paul designed the enamel and gold sailboat or painted on the dial and the painted Louis Vuitton Damier canvas trunk. A message signed by the young boy is also stuffed inside.
This Tambour Regatta Spin Time has a 45.5mm x 16mm rose gold case, and the regatta timing function uses LV’s novel “spin time” mechanics (the red squares are actually rotating cubes). The “spin time” collection was first introduced by LV in 2010, and then in 2012 it was applied to regatta timing.
The regatta timing is managed by the button on the case at 8 o’clock. Pushing the button sets the watch to regatta timing mode. Note the subdial up top starts at “25″ and counts to “30″ (marking the five minutes preceding the start of the regatta). The red cubes then mark race time in 5 minute increments.

Andy Lau stars in new Cartier short film (Video)
Cartier and Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau celebrate the launch of the Tank MC watch with an exclusive short film as fast-paced as their philosophy of time and life.
“To emulate the fast-paced reality of life of a celebrated actor-singer, the majority of the film was shot in the bustling district of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.”
“The production team, led by director Baillie Walsh, also made sure that each shot lingers no longer than two seconds. In some 50 scenes, a series of flashbacks and memories of Lau’s career and childhood was inserted to unfold the story while Lau hurries forward to his next performance at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre at default watch-ad time 10:10pm.”

Parmigiani Fleurier honors Brazil with a new timepiece
The Pershing Samba Madeira is the latest creation from Parmigiani Fleurier, it celebrates Brazil, with its vibrant colours and lively Samba rhythm.
The dial of the luxury timepiece features Brazil’s signature yellow and green shades as well as a stylized image of a guitar, with a tourbillon carriage in place of the soundhole.
The instrument even has six strings, as thin as human hair, fastened in place by hand. With a power reserve of 192 hours, the watch also has a hand-wound 30-second chronometer.
The titanium case of this luxury timepiece complements the bezel and indices in 18-carat rose gold. Behind the guitar, one reads “Ordem e Progresso,” Brazil’s national motto.
French luxury brand Hermès designed the strap for the “Samba Madeira,” in alligator leather accented by an adjustable folding clasp with a titanium finish.
