The £1.2million motorhome with storage for a supercar

This £1.2 million motorhome has been dubbed the world's ultimate camper van - thanks to a secret compartment which has room for a supercar. The Volkner Mobil Performance Bus is a 40ft long palace on wheels which offers total luxury for the more discerning traveller.

It features a hidden 'garage' tucked between the front and rear wheels which is designed to accommodate a low-slung sports car such as a Ferrari or Lamborghini. At the touch of a button a panel on the side of the vehicle opens and the cargo floor drops to the ground, allowing a car to be loaded. This makes the Performance Bus the ultimate touring vehicle for petrolheads rock stars like Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart.

The vehicle has been wowing crowds at this month's Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Prices for the uber-van start from £750,000 and rise to £1.2 million for the fully-loaded edition - and that's without the £170,000 Ferrari 458 pictured.

Customers can choose from a range of fixtures and fittings to customise their bus - from high-quality leather seats to real wood units and stone tiles in the kitchen and bathroom.

The buses also come equipped with a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Bose-Dolby-home Entertainment Surround System and a widescreen TV which can be concealed in the cabinet when not in use. There is also an 800-litre freshwater tank, 600-litre wastewater and 300-litre black water tank.

The made-to-order machines takes around 12 months to build. The firm takes orders from wealthy customers from across the world.

Stephanie Volkner, of Volkner Mobil, said: 'Our philosophy is to build the ultimate in luxury and we see it as a house on wheels which can be driven all around the world.'

Daily Dream Home – The Lake House, Nevada

The Lake House is probably one of the most imposing and intimidating homes presented as daily dream homes. Although it was originally named the Cliff House, current owners call it the Lake House. This villa is located half acre property in Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Nevada. Designed by San Francisco-based studio Mark Dziewulski Architects, the fantastic residence took 4 years to complete, starting with 2006. Spread over 8,694 square feet, the impressive interior spaces are designed to occupy five floors, rising the architecture high above ground and offering the owners plenty of space to live a luxurious modern lifestyle.

The main materials used in constructing and designing this residential building are steel, concrete and glass – all of them having carefully planned design lines. An interior glass elevator and imposing glass staircase construct a transparent interior design that allows natural light to flood the interiors. With four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the Lake House is a home where family and guests can enjoy panoramas of Lake Tahoe from behind glass walls framed by dark lines. Offered at $43 million, the Lake House also benefits from a private pier that completes the special features of this fascinating architectural masterpiece.

The Rachofsky House by Richard Meier, Dallas, Texas

The Rachofsky House is the private home and contemporary art collection of Cindy and Howard Rachofsky. The house aims to offer a unique experience with contemporary art and architecture through Richard Meier’s building, the rotating installations inside and the outdoor sculptural works, most of which are site-specific.

Richard Meier statement on the house:

Completed in 1996, The Rachofsky House revisits questions of architectural scale and philosophy that have been central to our firm’s practice for three decades: the importance of procession from exterior to interior, and from formal to intimate domain; the role of natural light in defining living spaces; the relationship between manmade structure and its natural surroundings; and the correlation between private dwelling and community. Because this residence has been designed for an individual, we were able to explore in it certain materials and design elements that might otherwise have been impractical for a family that has many different priorities, traffic patterns and schedules. In other words, The Rachofsky House is an ideal – an investigation into all of the possibilities of house as a building type without many of the usual compromises. I like to think that The Rachofsky House is a kind of elegant case study, an exercise that encourages us to reflect upon what our notions of house and home encompass.

A visit to The Rachofsky House unfolds as a kind of procession through a series of zones, taking one from the outdoors to indoors, and then back outdoors again. All of the spaces of the house, works of contemporary art, and vignettes of the surrounding landscape combine to animate the interiors of the house. Grass, trees, pond and sky are visible from every angle of the house.

The heart of the house is the second floor living room. Secrets of the entire site are revealed through the double-height plane of windows that serve as a permeable membrane between nature and home. Whereas the front façade of the house is reserved and opaque, the back façade dissolves and allows constantly changing plays of light and silhouette to amaze people within and outside the house. Ultimately, the purpose of The Rachofsky House is to provide a place of residence and respite. The potential of the house as a work of architecture is as a catalyst for further contemplation of nature and art, and the science of bringing them together in harmony.
