Auckland-based practice Daniel Marshall Architects made sure their clients would live in an inspiring interior and exterior environment when building the Waikopua House in Waikopua Bay on the Waiheke Island. Just 11 miles away from Auckland, New Zealand, this single-family beach house quenches its inhabitants’ thirst for comfort with a welcoming collection of interiors in natural colors.
“The concept evolved from the idea of a family group camping, creating space between the functional nodes. This was particularly important in allowing space for the boats and water to move through the valley to the bay below. This space was utilized to give physical separation to the guest house as well as a garage.”
Integrated into the surroundings landscape and boasting panoramic platforms and a transparency shaped by floor-to-ceiling windows, the fabulous modern residence was built with carefully chosen materials. Locally-sourced stone was used to build the stone walls, the timber dressing the upper level was painted black and the windows were tinted to limit reflection. All this led to the creation of a luxurious home with a perfectly manicured lawn opening towards the glimmering sea.
