There’s never been a more exciting time to be a car enthusiast, so we decided to come up with the five hottest supercars automakers will unveil over the next four years.



5. Lamborghini Cabrera (2015)

What makes it special? In the world of performance machines, things move relatively at a slower pace. Generally, a sports car stays into production for many years before it is finally retired, and till then it receives endless tweaks and subtle makeovers to keep it updated. Lamborghini Gallardo has been with us for over a decade, and notwithstanding the amazing credentials, it’s time to be replaced with something better, something new. Enter the Lamborghini Cabrera which is all set to become the successor to Gallardo and will take its place to be the company’s volume model. As of now, there is a little lack in clarity on its name as some industry experts believe Lamborghini will name it “Deimos” after a trademark application was discovered while most of the rumors suggest the Italian marquee will stick to the name Cabrera. Prototypes wearing heavy camouflage have been spied in the wild quite frequently giving us a fair idea of its design. It looks like a cross between Gallardo and the Aventador with reshaped LED headlamps. Lamborghini design philosophy is never disappointing and we don’t think it would be any different with the Cabrera.



Underpinnings and Powertrain: Much like the Gallardo, Cabrera will be the smaller Lamborghini on offer sharing its mid-engine platform with the second generation Audi R8. The shell will be made out of aircraft grade aluminum and a lot of carbon fiber is guaranteed to be used to make it as light as possible. In all probability, it’ll be powered by an engine similar to the current naturally aspirated 5.2 liter V10 engine which could be tuned to churn out close to 600 HP.

Arrival, Pricing and Competition: As per what we think, Lamborghini might unveil the Cabrera at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and will start selling it by the end of 2014 or early 2015. On the pricing front, Lamborghini might price it close to the current Gallardo models with a starting price of $200,000. Audi R8 V10 will be its closest competitor with the cousin giving it a tough fight.



4. BMW M8 (2016)

What makes it special? To answer in simple words; the M badge, its truncated LED lights and BMW’s return to making proper sports cars after a gap of almost three decades make it special. With its retro looks — reminiscent of the old M1 of the 80s – fused with the latest design philosophy of BMW, the M8 coupe promises to be a great performance machine in the making. And the good news is, it won’t come with an electric motor like its duplicate cousin, the BMW i8. It will be powered by a proper gasoline engine only to produce raw, brute horsepower. It would be a lot different than the other M-badged Beamers and will herald BMW’s foray into premium sports car market.

Underpinnings and Powertrain: The M8 will share its platform the futuristic i8 which will be made using carbon fiber and aluminum, but it will be powered by a proper petrol engine. There is no official confirmation but we suspect it will come with a retuned version of the M5’s 4.4 Liter V8 engine which can produce upwards of 600 HP.
Arrival, Pricing and Competition: We are still a few years away before BMW M8 enters into production, but if things go according to the current plans, it should hit the markets by 2016 with a price-tag reading upwards of $300,000 (without factoring in the inflation). When launched, it will compete against Porsche 911(s) and Audi R8.


3. Mercedes Benz SLC (2015)

What makes it special? Mercedes is ending the production of the SLS AMG this year and will unveil its last version, named the ‘SLS AMG GT’, at the upcoming Los Angeles Motor Show. The lunatic supercar with its iconic gullwing doors replaced the SLR AMG back in 2010, but after a successful run, it’s time for the V8 rocket to retire. The car that’ll replace the SLR AMG, codenamed C190, has been spied in the wild quite a few times draped in black camouflage. The car which is being called the baby SLS is expected to come with a new ‘SLC’ moniker, a name which makes a comeback after almost 30 years. The Mercedes SLC will be lighter and more agile than the car it replaces but the contours look very similar to the SLS AMG. It’s expected to come with a 5.5 liter V8 and new headlights, similar to the ones on all the new Mercs, but the most noticeable change is its door. It won’t come with the gullwing doors, but rather have the normal doors.

Underpinnings and Powertrain: Though information on the Mercedes SLC is scarce but we expect it to come with a brand new chassis which will be lighter and smaller than that of the SLS AMG. It will be powered by a bi-turbo 5.4 liter V8 which should be good to produce 600hp. Though the lightweight shell will make it more agile and will give it sharp performance, but it might lose the lunatic supercar image the SLS AMG earned for itself.

Arrival, Pricing and Competition: With the last version of the SLS AMG making a debut this month and the production slated to end early next year, it won’t be long before the Mercedes SLC breaks cover. If rumors are to be believed, it might be unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Pricing is expected to be kept below the current SLS AMG and might come under $100,000. A toned down Mercedes SLC will take on Porsche 911(s) and Audi R8.


2. Porsche 960 (2017)

What makes it special? The Porsche 911 Turbo and GT3 are fantastic sports cars but they don’t quite measure up well against supercars with more power and grunt. And on the other end of the spectrum is Porsche’s hypercar, 918, which costs more than $1 million along with optional extras. To bridge the wide gap between the two, Porsche is working on 960, a mid-engine supercar positioned above the 911s. Though there is very little information available on the Porsche 960 but it’s expected to be designed to look more like the 918 rather than the conventional Porsches.
Underpinnings and Powertrain: The Porsche 960 will feature an aluminum chassis combined with carbon fiber, magnesium and titanium to keep the weight down to below than 3,000 pounds. To give it some serious grunt, Porsche might use a boxer eight-cylinder engine which will be juiced up by four turbochargers according to sources. To take on the some very capable supercars, Porsche might tune the engine to produce upwards of 650hp.
Arrival, Pricing and Competition: Initially it was expected to arrive by 2015, but there is a delay in the project. Unlike the 918, this won’t be a limited-run model as Porsche plans to sell 3000 to 4000 over a six-year life cycle. Production will likely commence in early 2017 and will come with an expected price tag close to $300,000. The Porsche 960 will compete against Ferrari 458 Italia and Lamborghini Aventador.



1. LaFerrari (2014)

What makes it special? Is that even a question? Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the LaFerrari might have an odd name but has looks to die for. That’s what we call a proper pin-up poster king! The hyper-car which was codenamed ‘F150’ is the successor to the legendary Enzo. The limited edition flagship is Ferrari’s first hybrid and promise to be the fastest ever Ferrari on road till date. Only 499 will be ever made. It isn’t production ready yet as Ferrari is taking its time to perfect it. Every once in a while it’s spotted while being tested at different tracks across the world. Recently a prototype was spied at the Nürburgring circuit being put through its paces. A lot of the technology on this hyper-car has been sourced from F1 including the HY-KERS system and the V12 engine that features a F1-derived variable geometry air intake system.



Underpinnings and Powertrain: The LaFerrari uses four different kinds of carbon fiber,all hand-laminated and autoclave-cured in the racing department using the same design and production methods as the F1 car. It weighs just 2800 pounds – almost half a ton lighter than F12 Berlinetta. The hybrid hypercar is powered by a 6.3 liter V12 which produces 789 hp and an electric motor which lifts the peak power to a stratospheric 950 hp. Thanks to the insane amount of power, the LaFerrari goes from 0-60mph under 3 seconds and 0-124mph under 7 seconds.



Arrival, Pricing and Competition: Maranello hasn’t officially confirmed the price for its newest flagship but it’s believed to be in the range of ₤1 million ($1.6 million approx). Each of the 499 Laferraris were sold long before it was even unveiled this year at the Geneva Motor Show. Deliveries are expected to start from 2014 onwards and it will compete with McLaren P1 and Porsche 918.

Pirelli’s 2014 Calendar by Helmut Newton


Here’s the first look at Pirelli’s 2014 Calendar which features vintage Helmut Newton photos. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its annual calendar, tire company Pirelli has made the decision to release a set of Newton portraits from 1986. The calendar will feature 12 black and white never-before-seen photographs shot on location in Monte Carlo and Chianti. Newton had to abandon the 1986 shoot due to personal issues, and the photos were stored in the Pirelli archives until earlier this year. In contrast to more recent issues of the calendar, Newton was additionally given the task of including the Pirelli product in all of the shots.









1964 Ferrari 250 LM by Carrozzeria Scaglietti Sold For $14.3 Million


The star lot of Thursday’s Art of the Automobile Auction held at Sotheby’s New York, the 1964 250 LM by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, becomes the third most expensive Ferrari ever sold at auction.

And, thanks to a final bid of $14.3 million (€10.58 million) it is both a world record price for an example of the Carrozzeria Scaglietti-designed racing car and an amount large enough to gain the car entry to that most exclusive of lists — namely the top 10 list of the most expensive cars in history — Ferraris or not — to go under the hammer.

It may take some doing to dislodge the car currently in first place, Fangio’s 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R Formula 1 Single-Seater, which sold at Bonhams in July for an incredible $29,650,095 (€22,701,864). Still, this Ferrari 250 LM, of which only 32 were ever built, is viewed as equally special to Prancing Horse aficionados.

It was the first Ferrari to use a mid-engine layout meaning that Mr Scaglietti could ‘go crazy’ with the body shell design, wrapping the panels round the shorter body and creating the Ferrari design principles that persist to this day.

And that engine, a 320-horsepower V12, was a technological and engineering marvel, blitzing the competition. All of which explains the frenzied bidding and why the final price paid make the car the fourth most expensive in history — just behind two other Ferraris — a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spider which sold this year for $27.5 million (€20.35 million) in August and a 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa Prototype which fetched $16.39 million (€12.1 million) in 2011.

These prices may sound incredible and suggest that a classic car bubble is about to burst, but the truth is that the prices paid at auction are usually much lower than those paid in private and brokered sales. The Ferrari 250 GTO is the ultimate classic collectors’ car yet it never gets a chance to get as far as an auction and as a result they regularly change hands for upwards of $40 million (€30 million). Expect chaos if one were actually to make it into an auction catalogue.

The same auction also set a new record for the price paid for a Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II, a 1961 example fetching $2 million.

So, as of today, the top 10 most expensive cars ever sold at auction are:

7. 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster $11,770,000 (€8.7 million).
8. 1960 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione $11,275,000 (€8.3 million).
9. 1968 Ford GT40 $11,000,000 (€8.1 million).

Victoria and David Beckham Donate Clothes to Red Cross for Philippines Aid


Queues formed around the block outside a London charity shop on Friday after Victoria and David Beckham donated 20 boxes of clothes and shoes to raise money for victims of the Philippines typhoon.

Designer shoes and suits belonging to the Spice Girls singer turned fashion designer and her football icon husband were on sale at the British Red Cross shop in the wealthy Chelsea neighbourhood for as little as £100 (120 euros, $160) each, a fraction of their original price.



Buyers arrived at the shop up to two hours before it opened in the hope of getting a bargain, even if most of Victoria Beckham’s clothes will be too small for the average woman.

“We’re going to close early because we’ll be sold out — everything has gone really quickly,” Red Cross spokeswoman Laura Hinks told us.

“The clothes were priced very reasonably. David and Victoria wanted everyone to have an opportunity to buy something.”

They included a pair of Victoria’s striking cow print boots and denim and snakeskin cowboy boots with her name picked out in gemstones.

A similar mass donation by Victoria Beckham to a cancer campaign in 2010 raised almost £7,000, but there were no immediate figures for Friday’s sale.

Hinks said the famous couple had set an example: “They’re really hoping this encourages other people to go to their local British Red Cross shop and donate clothes.”

The window display featured a white suit and black shirt belonging to the former England captain, while there was a t-shirt with his wife’s nickname Posh and a white jacket with “Spice Girls” on the back.

There was also a sign reading: “Customers are limited to one VB or DB item only.”

Inside, five shelves were stacked with Victoria’s shoes and a rail of David’s jumpers on sale for £35 each.

There was also a red short skirt featuring the names of the couple’s sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.

Even men were even snapping up pairs of Victoria’s heels, some of which later turned up on eBay.

A woman proudly tried on her new Le Silla high heeled shoes in the street, while another showed off a yellow Chanel jacket.



Victoria Beckham had earlier posted a picture of herself on Twitter sitting among a pile of boxes as she packed up the clothes, along with another snap of a cascading pile of shoes.

“Everyone has something in their closet they were holding onto, a dress, suit, or pair of shoes they thought they might wear again,” she said in a statement.

“Dig them out, bag them up, drop them off and give someone else the chance to buy them, raising much needed funds for the Red Cross aid effort.”

Super Typhoon Haiyan, which flattened dozens of towns in the central Philippines on November 8, has left at least 5,500 dead or missing.

Aston Martin Vanquish Volante Neiman Marcus Edition


The open-top supercar, customized by Aston Martin’s in-house Q service, was inspired by Prince Charles’s classic 1969 DB6 Volante, a car that became world famous when Prince William and Kate Middleton took it for a spin during their royal wedding.

Although the standard Aston Martin Vanquish Volante has already made its European debut, this strictly limited version will be the first example to arrive on US shores and will be the first model offered for sale on the US market.

This bespoke edition — strictly limited to 10 examples — is finished in a shade of blue that Aston calls Seychelles that was painstakingly color-matched to that of Prince Charles’s classic DB6.

It also has subtle flashes of wealth, such as badges that appear to be chromed but are actually silver on the hood and tailgate and special 20″ alloy wheels finished in what the company calls ‘liquid silver’.

Inside, the seats are finished in Obsidian Black leather and the standard Vanquish steering wheel has been replaced for the one that features in the Aston Martin One-77 hypercar.

Other notable features include a rather old fashioned walnut veneered fascia which contrasts against the ultramodern satin chrome instrumentation. Completing the look is a four-piece set of matching bespoke luggage.

Under the hood, however, it’s business as usual. The 6-liter V12 remains untouched, meaning that the car is still capable of going from 0-60mph (100km/h) in a little over 4 seconds and onto a top speed, roof up or down, of 183mph (295km/h).

The car will be unveiled to the press on November 20 and Aston Martin fans will get their first chance to see it in the flesh on November 22 when the LA Auto Show officially opens to the public.
